Your vision and prescription are measured and the health of your eyes is checked.

You are given your prescription and told when your next test is due.
What should I bring?
- Your current glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses
- A list of any medicines you take, including eye drops
- Proof of entitlement if you are claiming a free NHS sight test, such as a benefits letter or HC2 certificate
- Your previous prescription, if you have one

Worried about your eye test?
Many people are. Tell us when you book and we will explain each part of the test before it happens. Nothing touches your eye without warning.
Common questions
In England this includes children under 16, people aged 16 to 18 in full-time education, people aged 60 and over, people with diabetes or glaucoma, people aged 40 and over with a close relative with glaucoma, and people receiving certain benefits.
